Das Flachwasserbiotop Neudenstein ist ein künstlich geschaffenes Areal.Es befindet sich in der für Kraftwerkszwecke aufgestauten Drau.Zur Aufschüttung wurde Überschussmaterial verwendet, welches im Zuge des Autobahnbaues angefallen ist. 1990 wurde mit den Schüttungen begonnen. 1991 wurden die letzen gestalterischen Maßnahmen vorgenommen.

Wichtiger Rastplatz für Vögel während der Zugzeiten und durch allgemeines Betretungsverbot auch von vielen Vögeln als Mauserplatz angenommen.

Das Gebiet wird völlig der natürlichen Entwicklung überlassen. Es gibt ein gesetzlich verordnetes Betretungsverbot.Es liegt ein Managementplan vor.Seit 1991 läuft ein Monitoring-Projekt über die Entwicklung des Tier- und Pflanzenbestandes.
