Mischwald 10 %Straßen und Wege 5 %Die Guntschacher Au lieg ca. 8 km südliche der Landeshauptstadt Klagenfurt, in der Gemeinde Maria Rain, am linken Drauufer und hat eine Fläche von ca. 53 ha, wovon ca. 14 ha vom Flachwasserbereich eingenommen werden.Der überwiegende Teil des Naturschutzgebietes besteht aus spätglazialen Schotterterrassen und -fluren, im westlichen Teil reichen stellenweise der Hollenburger Nagelfluh und deren Äquivalente bis an Drauufer heran. Von besonderem Interesse sind die zahlreichen Gräben und Runsen. Vorallem im westlichen Teil der Guntschacher Au münden einige kleinere und zwei größere unverbaute Bäche in die Drau.

4.2 Quality and importance

Wichtiger Rastplatz für Vögel während der Zugzeiten, durch ein teilweises Betretungs- und Fischereiverbot ist die Guntschacher Au ein optimaler und ungestörter Laichplatz für Amphibien und Fische.
