Bedeutende Teillebensräume sind die Fließstreckenabschnitte der Traun, die bewaldeten Einhänge, die Hartholzauen und Reste von hochwertigen Trockenrasen.

Das untere Trauntal zwischen Gmunden und Wels ist aufgrund der Übergangslage zwischen alpiner und kontinentaler Region und aufgrund des teilweise schluchtartigen Charakters von einer Vielzahl an FFH-Schutzgütern gekennzeichnet.
