Other Site Characteristics

Der Egelsee mit seinen Uferzonen ist in Tirol der wichtigste Lebensraum für das Schneideried (Cladium mariscus). Er ist in eine kleine Senke östlich des größeren Hechtsees im Gemeindegebiet von Kufstein eingelagert und bildet landschaftlich das Zentrum der dort ausgeprägten Geländekammer.

4.2 Quality and importance

Die "Kalkreichen Sümpfe mit Cladium mariscus und Carex davaliana" an den Ufern des Egelsees sind die bedeutendsten Bestände dieses v.a. auf das Vorkommen des Schneideriedes hin abgegrenzten Flächen im Bundesland Tirol. Andere nennenswerte Standorte für diesen in der alpinen Region nicht häufig auftretenden Lebensraum sind erst wieder im Bundesland Kärnten zu finden. Die Gebietsnominierung wurde aufgrund der Hinweise in den bundesländerinternen Abstimmungsgesprächen mit den namhaften Wissenschaftern Österreichs (u.a. Prof. G. Grabherr, SWG zu Habitatasuschuß) vorgenommen.
