Other Site Characteristics

Das 121 km² große Europaschutzgebiet „Verwall“ erstreckt sich über die gleichnamige Gebirgsgruppe von Partenen im Montafon über das gesamte hintere Silbertal entlang der Landesgrenze zu Tirol bis nach Langen am Arlberg im Klostertal. Es umfasst eine außerordentliche Fülle an montanen bis alpinen Lebensräumen, darunter einige bemerkenswerte Moorkomplexe wie am Langsee und der Wiege, naturnahe Gebirgsbäche wie den Gaflunabach und die Litz, sowie den größten Lärchen-Zirbenwald Vorarlbergs. Trotz erfolgter Erschließungen einiger Alp- und Waldgebiete mit Wegen und Forststraßen zeichnen sich insbesondere die Hochlagen durch ihre Abgeschiedenheit und Naturnähe aus. Nicht zuletzt deshalb zählt dieser Gebirgslebensraum im Lebensraumverbund mit den angrenzenden Europaschutzgebieten „Wiegnsee“, „Schuttfluren Tafamunt“, „Rifa“, „Spona“, „Gortniel“ und „Roßbündta“ zu einem der wichtigsten Rückzugsräume für seltene und gefährdete Gebirgsvogelarten und andere Wildtiere in der Region.

Große Vielzahl naturnaher und natürlicher Gebirgs-Biotoptypen, großer zusammenhängender Gebirgsraum mit vergleichsweise geringer Erschließung. Große Bedeutung für die Avifauna und andere Wildtiere des Gebirges sowie für die unterschiedlichen Moorlebensräume.
