Other Site Characteristics

Le site se compose de deux entités géographiques différentes ; la partie nord comprend d'une part les grands massifs forestiers, notamment la partie Wallonne de la Forêt de Soignes et des zones boisées du Parc Solvay, d'autre part le fond de vallée de l'Argentine et ses zones humides ; tandis que la partie sud correspond au fond e vallée de la Lasne et englobe des milieux ouverts de grand intérêt comme la lande de Rixensart, la réserve du Carpu et la zone humide du Ru Milhoux.

4.2 Quality and importance

Grandes surfaces de hêtraies et chênaies acidophiles atlantiques, que l'on retrouve largement en Forêt de Soignes et dans les domaines forestiers environnants et qui constituent l'habitat du pic mar et du pic noir. En fonction des niveaux de richesse et d'humidité des sols, on retrouve également d'autres habitats forestiers, dont des forêts alluviales et marécageuses. Les fonds de vallée humides abritent également quantité d'autres habitats, qu'il s'agisse d'étangs, de mégaphorbiaies, de roselières... avec un cortège d'espèces associées à ces milieux, comme la sarcelle d'hiver, le martin-pêcheur, le grand butor ou le maillot de Desmolin. Il est encore important de souligner la présence d'habitats de grand intérêt dans la vallée de la Lasne : des landes sèches, une nardaie et une prairie à molinie. Ces 2 derniers milieux sont rarissimes en zone atlantique, ce qui confère au site des vallées de l'Argentine et de la Lasne une importance majeure.
