Other Site Characteristics

Le site est composé de trois entités principales réparties autour d'Otttignies-Louvain-la-Neuve : au Nord, le Bois de Lauzelles, à l'Ouest, le marais de Limelette et les terrasses alluviales de la Dyle, et au Sud, les bois et milieux alluviaux situés en bordure des Ruisseaux de Malaise et d'Angon.

4.2 Quality and importance

Les formations forestières dominant le site sont les forêts des métaclimax des hêtraies acidophiles et neutrophiles atlantiques. Dans les zones situées sur les sols les plus pauvres apparaissent des boulaies et des chênaies-boulaies à molinie. Les fonds de vallée abritent quant à eux certains habitats forestiers des sols plus humides, notamment des chênaies-frênaies et des forêts alluviales. Il est à noter le très grand intérêt des zones de suintements à sphaignes dans le Bois de Lauzelle. Ces différentes milieux forestiers constituent notamment l'habitat du pic mar et du pic noir.Les fonds de vallée et les zones marécageuses du site abritent en outre une série de milieux non forestiers : cours d'eau et étangs, mégaphorbiaies, magnocariçaies et roselières, qui constituent l'habitat d'une série d'oiseaux et du Maillot de Desmolin. Il convient également de souligner l'importance des fragments de landes dispersés dans le site, ces habitats étant devenus très rares en Brabant Wallon.
