Other Site Characteristics

Massifs forestiers importants dans cette partie du brabant limoneux ou sablo-limoneux, formant des îlots essentiels à la biodiversité (Bois de Sart-des-Dames, de la Taille Martin, du Clair Bois, du Bois de Thys...) ; Site comprenant aussi des fonds de vallée du Bassin de la Dyle (Ruisseaux de la Cala et de Palante).

4.2 Quality and importance

Importante zone forestière installée sur un relief mouvementé et représentative de la hêtraie (hêtraies acidiphiles à Ilex aquifolium et hêtraies à jacinthe des bois) ; Présence de milieux alluviaux (aulnaies riveraines et mégaphorbiaies) bien conservés ; Présence de landes sèches (à restaurer); Seule station connue, au nord du Sillon Sambre-et-Meuse, pour Brenthis ino en Wallonie ; Intérêt herpétologique et ornithologique des milieux humides.
