Other Site Characteristics

Le site de la vallée de la Gueule en aval de la Calamine (Kelmis) soit entre Moresnet et Sippenaeken, comprend une mosaïque de milieux variés, ouverts et forestiers, situés en fond de vallée ainsi que sur des collines (Bois de Hees, Bois de Beusdael, Schimperbosch, Malenbosch).

4.2 Quality and importance

Site varié de la zone des "Trois Frontières" comprenant à la fois des milieux forestiers, des milieux alluviaux, des pelouses calaminaires liées à l'activité anthropique et de nombreuses prairies de fauche. La vallée de la Gueule entre Moresnet et Sippenaeken ayant conservé un grand potentiel pour plusieurs habitats humides. Bordant les eaux de la Gueule (3260), habitat du martin pêcheur d'Europe, du chabot et de la lamproie de Planer, des zones de mégaphorbiaies à reine des prés (6430) et des forêts alluviales (91E0*) forment des cordons rivulaires.Une remarquable halde calaminaire est présente à Plombières, malheureusement partiellement remblayée il y a quelques années. Cette halde recèle encore quelques superficies de pelouse calaminaire (6130) importantes pour cet habitat rare. Aux abords du Bois de Hees, il faut remarquer les surfaces importantes de prés de fauche (6510) localement rehaussées par la présence de la pie-grièche écorcheur. Autre espèce d'intérêt communautaire sensible, le grand murin forme une colonie d'estivage située dans le village de Plombières. Dans la vallée, les étangs de Terbruggen sont une halte régulière pour les anatidés en migration. Les habitats forestiers occupent des surfaces non négligeables : forêts du métaclimax de la hêtraie (9110, 9130) et chênaies pédonculées (9160).
