Other Site Characteristics

Le site "Sources de l'Amblève", bien que de petite taille (54 hectares) s'étend sur le territoire de 3 communes, à savoir Amel, Bütgenbach et Waimes. Son altitude se situe au-dessus des 500 mètres. Le nord du site accueille une partie des zones de source au lieu-dit Bütgenbacher Hütte. Les ruisseaux descendent vers le sud-ouest, à Klingesberg. Le site s'étire ensuite le long de ces cours d'eau et s'arrête peu avant l'entrée dans le village de Schoppen.

4.2 Quality and importance

Ce site représente une zone de la Haute Amblève très riche et diversifiée en milieux semi-naturels humides de fond de vallée ardennaise, tels que les bas-marais, les prés à joncs à tépales aigus et les prairies humides moyennement fertilisées. Principal habitat d'intérêt communautaire du site, les prés maigres de fauche de montagne (6520) sont présents de manière relativement homogène sur tout le site et recouvrent une dizaine d'hectares. Réparties le long des ruisseaux, les mégaphorbiaies à reine des prés (6430) forment un complexe de fonds de vallée avec les habitats patrimoniaux de grande valeur biologique cités plus haut. Il s'agit aussi d'un site important pour l'avifaune, et plus particulièrement pour le râle des genêts et la pie-grièche écorcheur. Les sources de l'Amblève offrent aussi des terrains de chasse pour le milan royal, le milan noir et la cigogne noire ainsi que des zones d'hivernage ou de halte pour la bécassine des marais. Les fonds de vallée riche en bistorte accueillent, en toute logique, le cuivré de la bistorte.
