Other Site Characteristics

Le site, formé essentiellement par la vallée de la Warche depuis ses sources jusqu'au lac de Bütgenbach et de quelques affluents est riche en anciennes prairies de fauche et en zones humides diverses. Il englobe aussi les prairies humides et anciennes landes de Honsfelder Venn et de Buchholz, de même que la partie orientale du plan d'eau de Bütgenbach.

4.2 Quality and importance

Dans les zones forestières à l'est du site se rencontrent la hêtraie acidophile à luzule blanche (9110) et la chênaie pédonculée à bouleaux (9190) sur les sols hydromorphes.Les zones ouvertes et agricoles bordant la Warche et ses affluents sont recouvertes par de grandes superficies de prairies de fauche montagnardes peu fertilisées (6520), parfois en mosaïque avec des nardaies (6230*). Les mégaphorbiaies rivulaires à reine des prés (6430) se retrouvent dans les zones inondables non-exploitées. Elles sont souvent en contact avec d'autres milieux humides de grande valeur patrimoniale comme les bas-marais acides, les prairies humides abandonnées, les prés à joncs à tépales aigus ou les prairies à canches cespiteuses et bistortes.Ces milieux ouverts de qualité abritent une population de cuivré de la bistorte. Le site présente également un grand intérêt pour l'avifaune des milieux ouverts, particulièrement pour le tarier des prés, les pies-grièches grise et écorcheur. Les milans (noir et royal) et la cigogne noire fréquentent également le site en période de reproduction alors que la bécassine des marais s'observe en hivernage et lors de ses haltes migratoires. Enfin, la partie orientale du lac de Bütgenbach accueille régulièrement des sarcelles d'hiver en période de migration et durant l'hiver.
