Other Site Characteristics

Le site correspond au cours de l'Amblève, comprenant des prairies humides en aval de Montenau et, à Baugné, un ensemble tourbeux et hydromorphe. Cette dernière zone est une remarquable cuvette canalisant les nombreux ruisselets y trouvant leur source, et partiellement comprise dans la réserve naturelle du « Ru des Fagnes ».

4.2 Quality and importance

Les forêts d'intérêt communautaire constituent la principale richesse du site en terme de superficie, suivie par la grande diversité d'habitats ouverts humides, tels les mégaphorbiaies rivulaires à reine des prés (6430), les prairies humides, les bas marais et les landes humides (4010). Ces habitats offrent en outre un terrain de chasse important pour la cigogne noire.Parmi les forêts visées par la Directive Habitats, la plus grande surface est couverte par les boulaies tourbeuses (91D0*) que l'on retrouve tout au long du site, suivie par les chênaie-boulaies à molinie (9190) avec lesquels elles sont parfois en mosaïque. En troisième lieu, et prioritaires tout comme les boulaies tourbeuses, se retrouvent les forêts riveraines (91E0*) tout le long du cours principal de l'Amblève.Plusieurs milieux aquatiques viennent enrichir le site, dont les eaux courantes de l'Amblève (3260) et les eaux stagnantes des plans d'eau (3130, 3140, 3150) qui constituent des habitats de reproduction et/ou de nourrissage pour la cigogne noire, le martin-pêcheur et, en période de migration, le balbuzard pêcheur.Les zones plus sèches, quant à elles, abritent des prairies de fauche de basse altitude (6510), des fragments de landes sèches (4030) et des nardaies (6230*).
