Other Site Characteristics

Le site de la vallée du Kolvenderbach est composé de milieux forestiers, de milieux prairiaux, de milieux ouverts non prairiaux et de plans d'eau s'articulant tout au long de la vallée, de la source jusqu'à sa confluence avec l'Our, non sans oublier les affluents. Il englobe une série d'habitats très représentatifs de la Haute Ardenne et est d'une grande beauté paysagère.

4.2 Quality and importance

Les versants forestiers situés dans les 2/3 nord du site sont occupés principalement par des hêtraies acidophiles à luzule blanchâtre (9110). Ces forêts abritent notamment le pic noir et la cigogne noire. Les aulnaies rivulaires (91E0*) s'étirent tout le long du Kovenderbach et sont un habitat prioritaire.Dans les milieux ouverts, les prairies maigres de fauche (6510, 6520), avec leur cortège riche d'espèces, sont l'habitat d'intérêt communautaire le mieux représenté. Le long du Kolvenderbach et de ses affluents s'articulent des zones humides colonisées par les mégaphorbiaies à reine des prés (6430) souvent en mosaïque ou transition avec des bas-marais. Grâce à divers projets de restauration, d'importante superficie de fond de vallée autrefois enrésinées laissent maintenant la place à une mosaïque de milieux ouverts de forte valeur patrimoniale. De taille plus réduite mais néanmoins remarquable, on ne peut ignorer la présence d'une parcelle relevant du Molinion (6410) et de quelques petites nardaies (6230*).Cette mosaïque de milieux accueille évidemment plusieurs espèces d'intérêt communautaire comme le cuivré de la bistorte, la pie-grièche écorcheur ou le milan royal.
