Other Site Characteristics

Le site des sources de l'Our et de l'Ensebach s'étend de Losheimergraben jusqu'à ce que l'Our passe la frontière belgo-allemande, au Sud de Manderfeld. L'altitude varie de 480 m à 650 m.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le site est principalement constitué de milieux prairiaux de fauche et de zones humides. Près d'un quart de la superficie totale est recouvert de prés maigres de fauche de basse et haute altitude (6510, 6520).De moindre surface, des nardaies (6230*) et des mégaphorbiaies (6430) sont répartis dans tout le site. Les prairies humides d'intérêt patrimonial, bien que non visées directement par la Directive Habitats présente néanmoins une grande richesse biologique et des espèces rares et protégées, tels le trèfle d'eau, la sanguisorbe officinale, l'orchis tacheté et l'orchis à larges feuilles. Parmi les forêts visées par la Directive Habitats, la plus grande surface est couverte par la hêtraie à luzule blanche (9110), principalement dans le nord du site. C'est également au plus près des sources que se trouvent les fragments de landes humides (4010) et de landes sèches (4030). Ces dernières offrent de plus une belle station de lycopode en massue.Le site accueille également des lambeaux de chênaie-boulaies à molinie (9190) et de forêts relevant du Carpinion betuli (9160). L'Our et ses affluents (3260) sont bordés partiellement par des forêts riveraines, habitat prioritaire. Pour compléter la riche variété du site des sources de l'Our et de l'Ensebach, il faut encore citer les nombreux plans d'eau dont certains sont d'intérêt communautaire (3130).Tous ces habitats, Natura 2000 ou non, fournissent des lieux de reproduction, de nourrissage et/ou d'hivernage pour une série d'espèces, comme le chabot, la cigogne noire, le cuivré de la bistorte, le martin pêcheur d'Europe, le pic noir, la pie-grièche écorcheur,…
