Other Site Characteristics

La vallée et les affluents du Braunlauf forment un important complexe de zones humides entre Breitfeld et Maldingen. Principalement constitué de milieux ouverts, le site abrite outre les prairies pâturées et les reliquats de prairies de fauche, des surfaces importantes de réserves naturelles agréées où des milieux intéressants se restaurent.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le site, dominé par les zones ouvertes, abrite néanmoins de petites superficies d'habitats forestiers relevant de la hêtraie à luzule blanchâtre (9110), du métaclimax de la chênaie-boulaie acidophile humide (9190) et de la chênaie-charmaie humide (9160).Les milieux ouverts abritent d'importants complexes de zones humides présentant une grande valeur patrimoniale : bas marais, prairies humides abandonnées, prés à joncs à tépales aigus, prairies à canches cespiteuses et bistortes. Les prairies maigres de fauche (6510) sont l'habitat d'intérêt communautaire le mieux représenté dans le site, bien que leur répartition soit fragmentée. Les mégaphorbiaies à reine des prés (6430) se rencontrent de façon localisées le long des cours d'eau où elles jouxtent parfois des aulnaies rivulaires (91E0*).Du point de vue de l'avifaune, deux espèces de pie-grièche (grise et écorcheur) et les deux milans (noir et royal) nichent dans le site tandis que la cigogne noire se nourrit dans les fonds de vallée humides. Enfin, le cuivré de la bistorte, lépidoptère des prairies humides à bistorte, est observable dans plusieurs zones du site.
