Le site de la vallée de l'Ulf est un important complexe de zones humides s'articulant autour du réseau hydrographique.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le site regroupe des bas-marais, des mégaphorbiaies à reine des prés (6430), des prairies du Molinion (6410) et des praires humides, habitats d'espèces tels le cuivré de la bistorte, la pie-grièche écorcheur et la pie-grièche grise.Les zones plus sèches accueillent des prairies maigres de fauche de basse altitude (6510) et les espèces cités ci-dessus, ainsi que des fragments de nardaies (6230*).Les habitats forestiers, participant à enrichir la variété d'habitats du site, représentent néanmoins de faible superficie. Quelques petites zones de hêtraies à luzule blanche (9110) reçoivent la visite du pic noir. De moindre surface, le site de la vallée de l'Ulf présente quelques zones boisées relevant des forêts alluviales (91E0*), des chênaies-boulaies à molinie (9190) et des chênaies-charmaies acidocline (9160).Les milieux aquatiques sont composés de plans d'eau (3130) et de rivières et ruisseaux (3260). Ces derniers constituent des habitats pour la mulette épaisse, le chabot, et bien d'autres. Le Thommerweiher assure une halte migratoire pour des espèces comme, entre autres, le balbuzard pêcheur, le chevalier sylvain, la grande aigrette, la sarcelle d'été et la sarcelle d'hiver.
