Other Site Characteristics

Il s'agit d'un site comprenant à la fois une colline calcaire (Fond des Vaux) à l'est de Marche-en-Famenne et une portion du vallon humide du Ruisseau de la Petite Fore, à l'ouest de Marche.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le site est remarquable pour les pelouses calcaires à orchidées et les quelques habitats rocheux qu'il abrite. Les zones forestières sont dominées par des forêts du métaclimax de la hêtraie calcicole, mais on y retrouve également de petites zones de forêts neutrophiles et d'érablières de ravins ombragées. Enfin, le site englobe une série de cavités souterraines et qui constituent une partie de l'habitat de nombreuses espèces de chauves-souris dont 3 sont d'intérêt communautaire.
