Other Site Characteristics

Ce site reprend le bassin de la Lomme entre Poix Saint-Hubert et Grupont. Il s'agit d'une des vallées ardennaises les mieux préservées de l'urbanisation, qui englobe entre autres la réserve du Prés des Forges et d'importants massifs forestiers comme les Bois de Tellin, de Smuid, et de Dessus à Mirwart. Le site est en continuité avec celui du massif forestier de Daverdisse à l'ouest et de la Haute Wamme et Masblette à l'est.

4.2 Quality and importance

Les crêtes et versants du site sont dominés par la hêtraie et la chênaie à luzule. Les zones plus humides (argiles blanches notamment) y ont généralement été enrésinées mais possèdent un important potentiel de restauration de chênaie -boulaie et de landes humides. Les fonds de vallée alluviaux abritent quant à eux des forêts humides et alluviales, tandis que de petites zones d'érablières de ravins parsèment certains versants de la Lomme. En termes de milieux ouverts, le site comprend notamment des prairies maigres, des mégaphorbiaies et des landes. Le site contribue de ce fait à l'habitat de plusieurs espèces d'intérêt communautaire, dont la pie-grièche érorcheur, le cuivré de la bistorte et plusieurs espèces de chauves-souris. L'ensemble de la vallée présente un grand intérêt pour l'avifaune forestière, dont le pic mar et la cigogne noire. Les cours d'eau abritent quant à eux diverses espèces d'intérêt communautaire, notamment du chabot et du martin-pêcheur.
