Other Site Characteristics

o Le site correspond au lit majeur du Ruisseau des Aleines, affluent de la Semois à Auby. Il s'agit d'un ensemble forestier comprenant des zones escarpées.

4.2 Quality and importance

o Le site comprend des forêts mixtes ou feuillues qui acueillent des oiseaux typiques des grands massifs forestiers (Cigogne noire, Pic noir, Pic mar) tandis que le fond de vallée procure l'habitat propice au martin-pêcheur. Une colonie de Murin à oreilles échancrées possède ses territoires de chasse sur une partie du site. Présence de reliques de forêts alluviales peu nombreuses suite à l'enrésinement du fond de vallée, mais, pour certaines, remarquables (aulnaies à sous-bois de Prunus padus). De grandes zones enrésinées mériteraient une restauration en mégaphorbiaies, prairies de fauche et forêts alluviales.
