Other Site Characteristics

Les populations d'arnica (Arnica montana) présentes dans le site ont connu un important déclin ces dernières années suite à leur isolement et à leur petit taille ainsi qu'à un enfrichement des sites. Incapables en l'état d'encore se reproduire, certaines ont fait l'objet de renforcements par le Life Herbages. Une petite population de chouette de Tenglmann (1-3 couples) s'est installée récemment dans le site et semble se maintenir.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le site correspond à la plus grande partie de la Forêt d'Anlier, l'une des plus grandes hêtraies Ardennaises, ainsi qu'à la forêt de Rulles et aux prairies et anciennes landes autour des villages de Anlier, Louftemont et Vlessart ;ce vaste massif forestier abrite d'importantes populations reproductrices de pic mar, de pic noir, de cigogne noire ;une colonie de reproduction du vespertillon à oreilles échancrées est présente en lisière sud du site, lequel abrite également le vespertillon de Bechstein ;ces massifs sont traversés par différents cours d'eau (Rulles, Arlune, ruisseau du Fourneau...) dont l'excellente qualité liée à un bassin hydrographique essentiellement forestier permet la présence des plus importantes populations de moule perlière de Belgique ainsi que la présence de la mulette épaisse ; ces populations de moule perlière ont une importante originalité génétique et sont l'une des plus importantes d'Europe occidentale. Elles restent néanmoins fortement menacées par l'absence de reproduction en lien avec la sédimentation des cours d'eau et la pollution des eaux ;historiquement fauchées, ces vallées ainsi que leurs zones de source présentent, d'importants ensembles de bas-marais, prairies oligotrophes, jonchaies, nardaies et landes de très grand intérêt biologique ;le site comprend d'importantes populations de cuivré de la bistorte.
