4.2 Quality and importance

Ce site correspond au sein de la cuesta Sinémurienne au vaste massif forestier feuillu qui sépare Lahage de Meix devant Virton au niveau des vallées de la Chevratte, du ruisseau de Lahage et du Lamframba, avec d'importantes surfaces de hêtraies neutrophiles à acidophiles ;ce massif forestier abrite des populations reproductrices de pic noir, de pic mar ;les versants des vallées sont gérés pour partie en taillis sous futaie initiallement en vue de restaurer des surfaces d'habitat favorables à la gélinotte ;le grand murin, le petit rhinolophe fréquentent le site ;les vallées du ruisseau de Lahage et du Lamframba, historiquement fauchées dans leur partie aval, sont progressivement restaurées en prairies maigres de fauche ou mégaphorbiaies ;le site renferme d'anciennes sablières où sont progressivement restaurées des pelouses sur sable calcaire ; un ensemble remarquable de crons forme un alignement à mi-versant des vallées de la Chevratte et du ruisseau de Lahage ; en fonds de vallée de la Chevratte, présence de remarquables surfaces de chênaies-frênaies et d'aulnaies alluviales.
