Other Site Characteristics

Présence de 1 à 2 couples de torcol dans le site. La marouette ponctuée a disparu du site dans les années 90, comme des autres sites de la Lorraine Belge.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le site englobe les hêtraies neutrophile à calcicoles de la cuesta bajocienne entre Baranzy et Athus sous la forme de trois massifs distincts ; ces massifs abritent des populations reproductrices de pic mar, de pic noir et périodiquement de pic cendré, ainsi que de milan noir en lisière : l'alouette lulu se reproduit sur le site de grand intérêt biologique du crassier de Musson, compris dans ce site Natura 2000 ; le marais de la Cussignière abritent d'importantes populations de grand cuivré des marais, d'agrion de mercure et d'importantes superficies de mégaphorbiaie, de magnocariçaies, de roselières sèches et d'aulnaies marécageuses à alluviales, avec à leurs alentours immédiats des prairies humides à mésophiles de fauche par ailleurs habitat de la pie-grièche écorcheur, de la bécassine des marais (hivernage) ; les anciennes minières de Musson et de Halanzy constituent des sites d'hivernage et de swarming pour le grand rhinolophe, le grand murin, le vespertillon à oreilles échancrées et le vespertillon de Bechstein d'importance nationale.
