4.2 Quality and importance

Le site s'articule autour de la Molignée et de ses affluents. Les versants escarpés, majoritairement boisés, offrent des conditions d'ensoleillement variées. Sur ces sols tantôt acides, tantôt calcaires, se développent des forêts riches et diversifiées: hêtraies acidophiles, chênaies calcicoles, érablières de ravins, aulnaies alluviales, chênaies-frênaies neutrophiles. De nombreux affleurements rocheux et carrières ainsi que des grottes et tunnels à chauve-souris diversifient la mosaïque d'habitats. Le réseau hydrographique n'est pas moins intéressant: le chabot, La Lamproie de planer, le Martin-pêcheur d'Europe, le Vespertilion des marais, sont des espèces d'intérêt communautaire rencontrées sur les ruisseaux. De plus, la végétation des eaux courantes (Ranunculion fluitantis), ou les sources pétrifiantes avec formation de travertins témoignent de la richesse biologique des lieux. L'Intérêt botanique et entomologique y est exceptionnel.
