Other Site Characteristics

Ce site englobe le lit majeur de l'Hermeton, d'importants massifs forestiers ainsi que quelques zones ouvertes entre Vodelée et Hermeton-sur-Meuse.

4.2 Quality and importance

Les vastes zones boisées de versant et de plateau abritent des forêts du métaclimax des hêtraies calcicole, neutrophile et acidophile en fonction de la nature lithologique du sol. On y retrouve en outre des formations forestières thermophiles exceptionnelles, ainsi que de remarquables forêts de ravins et des affleurements rocheux. Des chênaies-frênaies humides et des forêts alluviales occupent quant à elles la majeure partie du fond de vallée de l'Hermeton ainsi que les banquettes alluviales des petits ruisseaux qui parcourent le site. Les différents milieux forestiers contribuent à l'habitat des pics mar et noir, de la cigogne noire, de l'alouette lulu et de la bondrée apivore. Dans la partie amont du site, les milieux ouverts englobent notamment des prairies de fauche extensives, ainsi qu'une petite pelouse calcaire. En termes de milieux aquatiques, le site comprend un tuf remarquable et contribue à l'habitat de la mulette épaisse et du martin-pêcheur.
