Other Site Characteristics

Site majeur de la vallée de la Meuse comprenant de nombreux rochers calcaires, des pelouses, des forêts de versant et des bras morts avec une belle végétation aquatique.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le site s'étend le long de la Meuse depuis la frontière française jusque Dinant et comprend des habitats aussi variés que les bois et falaises de Freyr, la Noue du Colebi, les rochers de Waulsort, les pelouses calcaires du Cretia. Les grottes "La merveilleuse" et "du pont d'arcole" abritent d'importantes populations hivernantes de Grand Rhinolophe, de Murin à oreilles échancrées et dans une moindre mesure de Grand Murin et Vespertillon de Bechstein. Les nombreuses cavités présentes dans toute la vallée révèlent de temps à autre une surprise telle que l'hivernage de quelques Petits Rhinolophes. Le Faucon pélerin et le Grand-duc d'Europe profitent des hautes falaises ensoleillées sur lesquelles se développent la végétation particulière du Festucion pallentis. Sur les hauts des versants bien exposés se développent des chênaies-charmaies thermophiles accompagnées de buxaies. Quelques belles pelouses calacaires jalonnent le site et peuvent se révéler riches en orchidées. De larges érablaies-frênaies de ravin profitent des versants froids et humides. Quelques forêts alluviales sont présentes dans les vallons des affluents de la Meuse.
