Other Site Characteristics

Le site inclut l'ensemble du massif forestier de Cerfontaine, situé entre le village de Cerfontaine et la vallée de l'Eau Blanche. Cette zone forestière entaillée par plusieurs petits ruisseaux générant des vallons encaissés est essentiellement composé de la chênaie de substitution, faciès de la hêtraie à mélique. Il présente aussi des portions de chênaies famenniennes et d'aulnaies marécageuses ainsi que quelques lambeaux de forêts alluviales et de ravins. De par sa superficie, ce massif forestier est un habitat de première importance pour les oiseaux forestiers tels les Pics mar et noir. Au sud de ce massif, le site intègre des prairies mésophiles de bonne qualité qui constituent un site de nidification de la Pie-grièche écorcheur.
