4.2 Quality and importance

La diversité des habitats et des habitats d'espèces rencontrée sur ce site justifie pleinement sa désignation. Des pelouses sèches aux érablières de ravin en passant par les prés de fauche, les chênaies calcicoles, l'imbrication de tous ces habitats contribue à la biodiversité du site. Quelques hectares peuvent encore être identifiés comme du molinion, groupement végétal devenu très rare en Wallonie. Un tuf calcaire, habitat très rare et sensible, peut être observé dans le Bois du Chi. La plus importante population belge de Coenagrion mercuriale est présente dans les drains parcourant la plaine tandis que les habitats forestiers abritent Pics mar, noir, Milan royal... et que le bocage permet la nidification de la Pie-grièche écorcheur.
