Other Site Characteristics

The SCI includes the whole valley of the river Harmanliyska below the Trakietz Dam and the hills south of the town of Harmanli. Includes habitats with significant Mediterranean climatic influence (Eurocontinental Sub-Mediterranean climate according to Rivas-Martinez).

4.2 Quality and importance

The site is one of the most important for the conservation of Elaphe quatorlineata sauromates in Bulgaria. The SCI protects a non-fragmented river system, tributary to the Maritza River, with representative habitats 91E0 and 92A0.
