Mesotrophe bis eutrophe Seen mit außergewöhnlich gut erhaltener Unterwasservegetation sowie unterer Teil der Schmarkau mit angrenzenden Bruchwaldflächen als Lebensraum für des Fischotters.

Herausragende Bedeutung des Schluensees als klarster See des Bundeslandes, zahlreiche gefährdete Wasserpflanzen auch im Grebiner See. Rückzugsgebiet für den Fischotter (Schmarkau-Niederung).
