Teil des NSG Barker Heide. Überwiegend trockene Binnendünen und Flugsanddecken mit Sandheiden, Feuchtheiden, Moorbereichen, lichten Wäldern und Fließgewässern.

4.2 Quality and importance

Rest der ehemals großen Segeberger Heide, vielfältig an die Heide- und Dünenlandschaft gebundene Flora und Fauna. Landes- und kulturhistorisch bedeutsame Heide, fließende Übergänge zur Niederung. Das Gebiet ist Teil des geologisch schützenswerten Objektes 'Binnendünen östlich von Bockhorn'.
