Die Bille verknüpft als abschnittsweise naturnahes Gewässer charakteristische Biotopkomplexe des Übergangs zwischen Alt- und Jungmoräne im südöstlichen Schleswig-Holstein mit der Elbe.

4.2 Quality and importance

Die Bille gilt als einziges Salmonidengewässer Schleswig-Holsteins und weist aufgrund des abschnittsweisen hohen Natürlichkeitsgrades seltene und vom Aussterben bedrohte Arten sowie gefährdete Biotope auf. Das Gebiet ist als geowissenschaftlich schützenswertes Objekt 'Tal der Bille zwischen Grande und Mühlenrade' verzeichnet.
