Sehr naturnahe, mäandrierende Geestflüsse bzw. -bäche mit großenteils gut ausgeprägter Wasservegetation, Erlen-Auwäldern, Moorwäldern, Naßwiesen, Sümpfen, Rieden und Röhrichten. In Quellgebieten Übergangsmoore und Hochmoore.

Bedeutender Komplex von Geestflüssen und -bächen, letzter vermehrungsfäh. Bestand der Flussperlmuschel in Nds. Repräsentanz von Teichen mit Zwergbinsen-Gesellschaften, Übergangs- u. Schwingrasenmooren, Moorheiden, Moorwäldern. Fischotter. Große Bedeutung für den Fischotter und die große Moosjungfer.
