Gebiet mit mehreren alten, meso- und eutrophen Stauteichen mit Verland.- u. Unterwasservegetation am Stadtrand. Ausgedehnte Röhrichte, Riede, eingestreut Bruchwälder, Weidengebüsche und Feuchtgrünland. Im Süden Eichen-, Birken- und Buchen-Mischwälder.

Bedeutende Vorkommen von Schlammpeitzger sowie LRT 3130 und 3150. Landesweit bedeutendes Brutgebiet für Röhricht bewohnende Vogelarten (insbes. Rohrdommel), national bedeutender Gastvogellebensraum f. Wasservögel der Flachwasserzonen.
