Mittelgebirgsrandtal mit bedeutsamen geologischen Bildungen, ausgedehnten Buchenwäldern, Eichen-Hainbuchenwäldern, Silikatfelsen und Felsfluren sowie einem naturnahen Gewässersystem.

Ausgedehnte und sehr gut ausgeprägte Waldtypen, insbesondere Buchenwälder, Schlucht- und Hangmischwälder und Eichen-Hainbuchenwälder. Vielfältige, gut ausgeprägte Felsfluren. Komplexer Lebensraum bedrohter Tier- und Pflanzenarten. Es liegen keine Informationen vor. Einheiten der Blankenburger Zone mit zahlreichen Geotopen, die den geologischen Bau des Harzes deutlich machen (Olistothostrome).
