Naturnahes Niederungsgebiet im Unterlauf eines Tieflandflusses (Schwalm) mit Moor- und Heideflächen (tlw. z. Entwicklung), Röhrichten, Birken- und Erlenbruch sowie Eichen-Birkenwäldern, außerdem Fischteiche, Abgrabungssee und Nadelholzkulturen. Ergänzung zu 3.3.: Im Gebiet gibt es bedeutsame Vorkommen folgender Vogelarten: Bekassine, Blaukehlchen, Eisvogel, Fischadler, Heidelerche, Knäkente, Kornweihe, Krickente, Löffelente, Pirol, Rohrdommel, Schwarzkehlchen, Schwarzspecht, Teichrohrsänger, Waldwasserläufer, Wasserralle, Wespenbussard, Wiesenpieper, Ziegenmelker, Zwergtauc
