Durch engmaschiges Talnetz stark gegliederte Hochfläche der Saale-Sandsteinplatte mit ausgedehnten Kiefern- und Fichtenforsten mit geringem Laubholzanteil über nährstoffarmen Buntsandsteinböden sowie zahlreichen kleineren Fließgewässern und Waldteichen
