Kerbtal der Mosel mit warmtrockenen Steilhängen sowie einer Reihe tief eingeschnittener, bewaldeter Seitentäler. Felsen, Brachen und diverse laubholzdominierte Waldtypen sind die wesentlichen Lebensräume.

Die Anzahl und flächenmäßige Ausdehnung artenreicher Lebensraumtypen machen das Gebiet für eine Vielzahl bedrohter Anhang I - Arten attraktiv und schützenswert. Mehrere Arten (z.B. Haselhuhn) weisen hier mit ihre größten Brutvorkommen auf.
