Großflächige, ungestörte, unzerschnittene, struktur- und artenreiche Laub- und Laubmischwälder.

4.2 Quality and importance

Wertvolle, regionaltypische Buchen- u. a. Wald-Lebensraumtypen, die gleichzeitig für Fledermausarten und Käfer von großer Bedeutung sind. bedeutendstes Mittelwaldgebiet Oberfrankens, ehemals gänzlich Klosterwald bis zur Säkularisation im Jahr 1803, dannach Aufteilung in herzoglichen Wald (Banz) und gemeinschaftliche Güterhölzer und Privatwälder (überwiegend Eierberge), neben Mittel- und Niederwaldnutzung, Lohrindengewinnung und Büttnerholzverkauf sowie Umwandlung in Hochwaldnutzung ab 1848 (vorwiegend Banz).
