Zusammenhängendes Waldgebiet auf Quarzit, stellenweise Moorbildungen mit Quellmooren, Moorheiden, Moor-und Bruchwälder. Vereinzelt Borstgrasrasen und Zwergstrauchheiden. Teils mit anthropogenen Fichtenforsten.

4.2 Quality and importance

Zwischenmoore im Komplex mit weiteren Feuchtbiotopen nährstoffarmer Standorte, Lebensräume seltener Arten, z.B. Schmetterlinge Hochmoor-Scheckenfalter und Skabiosen-Scheckenfalter (Eu. aurinia.). Altholzreicher Buchenwald. Bis Ende 18. Jahrhundert handelte es sich um ein reines Laubwaldgebiet, das durch Köhlerei, Waldweide und Entnahme von Bauholz gekennzeichnet war. Bis zu 2 m mächtige Moorböden mit Bedeutung für pollenkundiche. Untersuchungen zur Waldentwicklung und Kulturgeschichte.
