76 Höhlen.Das Schmiechtal ist eine Tallandschaft voller Kontraste. Schmiecher See, Heckengebiete, Felsen-, Trocken-, Halbtrockenrasen mit bemerkenswertem Vorkommen v. Orchideen (2% prioritär) und Pulsatilla vulgaris, Auwiesenreste und Steppenheidewald.

4.2 Quality and importance

Im Schmiechtal kommen fast alle im Naturraum bekannten Tier- und Pflanzenarten vor. Der Schmiechener See ist eine geologische und naturkundliche Besonderheit. Das Schmiechtal ist Altsiedelland und war schon Siedlungslandschaft in vor- und frühgeschichtlicher Zeit. Ehemalige Allmendflächen. Teilweise ehemaliges Urdonautal mit Zuflüssen, das erdgeschichtlich bedeutende Tier- und Pflanzenfunde beherbergt.
