Other Site Characteristics

Mehrere Niedermoorkomplexe, überwiegend als Grünland genutzt, kleinflächige Übergangsmoore und Streuwiesen, teilweise mit Wald bestockt. Zwischen Sigmaringen und Meßkirch liegen drei Höhlen, ein bewaldetes Tälchen mit Felsen und drei von Wald umgebende Weiher. Weiterhin Ortslage von Menningen, eine ehemalige Kiesgrube und ein verlandetes Toteisloch.

4.2 Quality and importance

Charakteristisch sind die heute überwiegend landwirtschaftlich genutzten Bereiche mit Relikten von Niedermoorlebensräumen, wie Pfeifengraswiesen. Vorkommen des Hellen Wiesenknopfameisen-Bläulings, Grünen Besenmooses, Großes Mausohrs, Kammmolchs und der Gelbbauchunke. Ehemalige kleinflächige Handtorfstiche. Traditionelle Weiherbewirtschaftung. Reste einer ehemaligen Wässerwiese. Zeugnis der eiszeitlichen und nacheiszeitlichen Landschaftsentwicklung. Anstehender Weißjura am südlichsten Rand der Schwäbischen Alb, letzter Jura-Ausläufer inmitten von rißeiszeitlichen Ablagerungen.
