Other Site Characteristics

Habitatområdet, der ligger vest for København, er en del af et større mosesystem, der er udviklet fra søer i det relativt flade terræn. Idag er størstedelen af det ikke-afgræssede område sprunget i skov, domineret af Dunbirk (Betula pubescens) og Ask (Fraxinus exelsior). I skovbunden er der bla registreret Rederod (Neottia nidus-avis), Ægbladet Fliglæbe (Listera ovata) og Skovhullæbe (Epipactis helleborine). Under og lige efter 2. Verdenskrig har der været gravet eller skrabet tørv og i de lysåbne partier, hvor det underliggende mergellag er blevet blottet ses idag en interessant flora med flere sjældne arter, så som Melet Kodriver (Primula farinosa) og Rust-Skæne (Schoenus ferrugineus). Det samme er gældende for det område, hvor der i 1984 blev gennemført en lignende pleje i form af afskrælning af de øverste jordlag og rydning af træer og buske. NB: At this site the habitat type 6210 is to be considered as non-priority.

4.2 Quality and importance

På grund af den store forekomst af flere sjældne plantearter er moserne meget vigtige botaniske lokaliteter. F.eks. findes Melet Kodriver, bortset fra på Bornholm, kun et andet sted i Danmark. Derudover er området en fin lokalitet for ynglefugle. Størstedelen af habitatområdet blev fredet i 1968. Fra amtets side er det målet, at en større del af moseområdet på lang sigt skal gøres lysåbent. Dette vil ske ved rydning af træer og buske, evt. afskrabning af de øverste jordlag og ved ekstensiv afgræsning. Desuden har en del af skovarealerne karakter af naturskov og er af stor videnskabelig og æstetisk værdi.
