Other Site Characteristics

Rådmandshave er et skovområde langs Susåen, ved Herlufholm. Størstedelen af skoven er højskov med Bøg (Fagus sylvaticus) og Eg (Quercus sp.). Flere store Ege med en alder på ca. 200 år vokser i skoven med indslag af Navr (Acer campestre), Ahorn (Acer pseudoplatanus), Hæg (Prunus sp.) og Ask på fugtig humusrig bund (7). Den sydøstlige del af skoven har præg af naturskov. Moseområdet er fugtigt og tilgroet med Ask (Askemose) og El. I skoven findes flere sjældne svampearter af slægten Lepiota sp.. I den nordvestlige del af det udpegede område findes Ellesumpskoven. Ifølge fredningsdeklarationen må ellebevoksningerne ikke afdrives.

4.2 Quality and importance

Stævningsskove med El havde tidligere meget stor udbredelse og kan stadig træffes i moser og langs vandløb. Her er den øverste del af ellenes rodnet blottet. Det skyldes, udover stævningsmetoden, at tørven er sunket sammen som følge af dræning og grundvandssænkning. De tidligere stævningskove opfattes i dag som bevaringsværdige naturskove, dvs. selvgroet skov af danske træer og buske. Vandløbsstrækningen gennem Rådmandshave er botanisk interessant på baggrund af tilstedeværelsen af flere arter af Vandaks og specielt Langbladet Vandaks (Potamogeton praelongus), som er sjælden i Danmark. Desuden findes Almindelig Pilblad (Sagittaria sagittifolia) på denne strækning af Susåen - arten er også sjælden og i tilbagegang i Danmark, blandt andet som følge af grødeskæring. Susåen er udpeget som Naturvidenskabeligt referenceområde med skærpet målsætning i området ved Rådmandshave. Dette er dog mest på baggrund af Susåens fauna.
