Other Site Characteristics

EF-habitatområdet er beliggende på Havris Hede og er geologisk set et dødislandskab. Skånsø er således beliggende i et dødishul og det topografiske opland er meget lille (ref.1). Tranemose er dannet som følge af tørvegravning omkring århundredeskiftet og brinkerne står flere steder som stejle tørveprofiler (ref.2). Området er beliggende på kanten af israndslinien og er opbygget af senglaciale smeltvandssedimenter, der er fattige på næring og kalk.

4.2 Quality and importance

Begge søer har en meget god kvalitet og ingen af dem har overjordiske tilløb. De ligger derfor godt beskyttet for næringstilførsel, der er en af disse naturtypers største trusler. Der er desuden forekomst af den prioriterede naturtype 7110 *aktive højmoser. Da naturtyperne er sjældne i Danmark, er lokaliteten af meget stor betydning.
