Other Site Characteristics

Området består af fire lavvandede søer omgivet af rørsumpe, enge og marker. Vest Stadil Fjord er et tidligere fjordområde, hvor vandstanden ved pumpning sænkes 1,4 m under det gennemsnitlige niveau i de danske have. To tredjedele af arealet er idag store marker, mens rørskov og åbne vandflader dækker den sidste tredjedel. Den vestlige del grænser op til Vesterhavet med Husby Klit liggende imellem området og havet.

4.2 Quality and importance

H: Kvaliteten af dette område er høj. Med ønsket om at danne et økologisk sammenhængende netværk af vigtige levesteder og spredningsveje for Odder Lutra lutra i Danmark, er dette habitatområde af stor betydning, da området skaber spredningskorridor for Odder til andre dele af landet. Derudover er området i efterårsmånederne af stor vigtighed for store flokke af både kortnæbbet gås Anser brachyrhynchus, sangsvane Cygnus cygnus samt pibesvane Cygnus bewickii , der benytter de omkringliggende marker som rasteplads på deres træk syd på. EF: I de kommende år kan det forventes at fuglebeskyttelseområdets eng- og sumpområder retableres og at vandkvaliteten i sørerne forbedres. Lokaliteten vil dermed atter kunne få meget stor betydning for rastende svaner og svømmeænder. Men selv i dag er området en meget vigtig rasteplads for trækkende fugle især svaner og gæs men også rovfugle. Specielt er Stadil- og Veststadil Fjord i efterårsmånederne af stor vigtighed for store flokke af især Kortnæbbet Gås (Anser brachyrhynchus) og Pibesvane (Cygnus bewickii), der benytter de omkringliggende marker som rasteplads på deres træk syd på. Her kan ligeledes være stor flokke af Krikænder (Anas crecca crecca), Spidsænder (Anas acuta) og Pibeænder (Anas penelope).
