Other Site Characteristics

Klithederne i Thy er nogle af de mest vidtstrakte og uberørte områder i Danmark. Deres plante- og dyreliv er helt specielt og tilpasset de særlige forhold, der findes i klitter, heder, hedemoser, hedesøer og klitsøer. Ålvand Klithede rummer ca. 50 mindre vådområder bestående af kærmoser og hedesøer. En stor del af vådområderne har veludviklet hængesæk og bundrosetplanter.

4.2 Quality and importance

H: Området er udpeget til naturvidenskabeligt interesseområde og er tillige fredet. Ålvand Klithede har Danmarks næststørste bestand af Tringa glareola (tinksmed). Der yngler mindst 1 par Grus grus (trane) i området - Grus grus er på den danske rødliste. Tranerne kræver udstrakte hedemoser med en mosaik af hængesæk, hedekær og åbent vand. Disse forhold findes i Ålvand Klithede. Skov- og Naturstyrelsen opkøbte i 1996 25 ha bjerg-fyrplantage som er beliggende i EF-habitatområdet. Formålet med opkøbet er at rydde bjerg-fyrren og genskabe og udvikle områdets klithede. EF: Ornitologisk set er Ålvand Klithede af meget høj værdi, da den har Danmarks næststørste bestand af Tinksmed og er ynglested for Trane.
