Other Site Characteristics

I Stenalderen var hele området dækket af Littorinahavet, og det er derfor opbygget af marine aflejringer og flyvesand. I dag domineres habitaten af en mosaik af forskellige klitlandskaber, bl.a. store områder med parabelklitter - vest-øst orienterede rækker af klitrygge og afblæste, fugtige flader. Bl.a. ses vandreklittens forskellige successionsstadier ved Råbjerg Mile og Sandmilen og de udstrakte grå klit- og hedelandskaber på Hulsig Hede.

4.2 Quality and importance

H: Kvaliteten af de forskellige naturtyper er generelt meget høj. Dette gælder også for den prioriterede 2130. Størstedelen af området er fredet og af stor botanisk og geologisk betydning. Området er generelt uden bebyggelser og tekniske anlæg, og er i dag et af de størte og relativt mest uberørte naturområder i Danmark. EF: Råbjerg Mile og de nærliggende hedeområder er af stor værdi som bevaringsområde for specielt den ynglende bestand af Hjejle i Danmark. Størstedelen af området er desuden fredet. Området er generelt uden bebyggelser og tekniske anlæg, og er i dag et af de største og relativt mest uberørte naturområder i Danmark.
