Linnuraba loodusala asub Raplamaal ning ala pindala on ca 3400 ha. Loodusala peamiseks väärtuseks on mitmekesiste kasvukohatüüpidega ulatuslik loodusmaastik, mis koondab endas arvukalt Natura 2000 võrgustiku elupaigatüüpe. Viimased katavad ligi 75% loodusalast. Valdavalt soo- ja metsakooslused pakuvad varjevõimalusi inimpelglikele lindudele, pärandkultuuri objektid kinnitavad ala tagasihoidlikku kasutamist ka minevikus. Inimtühjal ja raskesti ligipääsetaval loodusalal, mille tuumikuks on ulatuslik soomassiiv mitmekesiste sookooslustega ja neid ümbritsevate metsadega, ei ole olulisi ohutegureid. Varasem karjatamine Kasari jõe ülemjooksu luhaaladel on ammu lõppenud. Majandustegevuse taastamine luhtadel on väga keeruline. Loodusala läbib Kasari jõgi. Loodusalal esinevad kaitsealustest liikidest kaunis kuldking, eesti soojumikas, püst-linalehik, saarmas, kaljukotkas ja metsis.

4.2 Quality and importance

Linnuraba loodusalal kaitstavad elupaigatüübid on huumustoitelised järved ja järvikud (3160), jõed ja ojad (3260), lamminiidud (6450), puisniidud (*6530), rabad (*7110), siirde- ja õõtsiksood (7140), nokkheinakooslused (7150), liigirikkad madalsood (7230), vanad loodusmetsad (*9010), vanad laialehised metsad (*9020), rohunditerikkad kuusikud (9050), soostuvad ja soo-lehtmetsad (*9080) ning siirdesoo- ja rabametsad (*91D0). Kokku katavad Natura elupaigatüübid 76% loodusala pindalast. Kõrgeima loodusväärtusena (väga hea esinduslikkus) on registris lamminiidud (2 eraldist, kokku 137 ha), raba (1 eraldis 206 ha), mitmed liigirikkad madalsood (6 eraldist, 67 ha), vanad loodusmetsad (1 eraldis, 4 ha), vanad laialehised metsad (2 eraldist, 17 ha), rohunditerikkad kuusikud (1 eraldis, 38 ha), soostuvad- ja soolehtmetsad (1 eraldis, 128 ha) ning siirdesoo- ja rabametsad (1 eraldis, 740 ha). Üldse on kõrgeima loodusväärtusega hinnatud 1337 ha ja kõrge loodusväärtusega (A+B esinduslikkus) 2003 ha loodusala territooriumist, mis moodustab vastavalt 40% ja 59% kogu loodusalast. Esinduslike elupaikadega maastik on heaks elupaigaks kaitsealustele liikidele saarmas (Lutra lutra), kaunis kuldking (Cypripedium calceolus), läikiv kurdsirbik (Drepanocladus vernicosus), eesti soojumikas (Saussurea alpina ssp. esthonica) ja püst-linalehik (Thesium ebracteatum)
