Other Site Characteristics

Constituidas por dos explotaciones salineras en activo, otra abandonada y varios cotos cinegéticos y piscícolas que contienen balsas y canales.

4.2 Quality and importance

Son las salinas tradicionales en activo más importantes de la Comunidad Valenciana y probablemente del litoral mediterráneo español. Contienen una gran diversidad de hábitats, desde las dunas costeras hasta los matorrales halófilos y estepas salinas más interiores, destacando el buen estado de conservación de las comunidades acuáticas y la riqueza y diversidad de las estepas salinas. Resulta de gran interés para la avifauna, principalmente para los limícolas y el flamenco, mereciendo destacarse las colonias de garzas (incluye uno de los escasos de nidificación regular del Plegadis falcinellus en la Península Ibérica) y la nidificación de la gaviota picofina (Larus genei), razones por las que ha sido incluida en el listado del Convenio Internacional de Ramsar. Igualmente alberga fartet (Aphanius iberus) y varios Limonium endémicos.
