Other Site Characteristics

Engloba un conjunto de 5 áreas de importancia para las aves esteparias, de relieve llano o ligeramente ondulado, ubicadas en la comarca de Chinchilla de Montearagón corredor de Almansa.Constituye una zona con áreas cultivadas salpicadas de pequeños enclaves de matorral y coscojar. Comprende la Zona Especial de Conservación Lagunas Saladas de Pétrola y Salobrejo y Complejo Lagunar de Corral Rubio.

4.2 Quality and importance

De gran interés para las aves esteparias, tanto por la diversidad de especies y cuantía de sus poblaciones, como por su distribución marginal, en el límite oriental del territorio de Castilla- La Mancha, destacando las poblaciones de Avutarda, Sisón, Ortega y Alcaraván. Las lagunas poseen gran importancia a nivel florístico y constituyen un importante lugar para la avifauna acuática, tanto por el número de aves como de especies que alberga, en época de invernada, de paso y nidificación.

6.3 Conservation measures (optional)

En diversos polígonos catastrales de los términos municipales de Corral Rubio, Chinchilla de Montearagón, Higueruela, Montealegre del Castillo y Almansa, se aplica un Programa de Ayudas a la adopción de prácticas agrícolas compatibles con la conservación del hábitat para las aves esteparias en la Comunidad Autónoma de Castilla-La Mancha (Orden de la Consejería de Agricultura y Medio Ambiente de 24 de marzo de 1995).Planes de Ordenación de los Recursos Naturales en trámite: a) Laguna salada de Petrola.
